The problem with ...
... reduction ad absurdum arguments such as this is that they assume that the ideas proponents would never go as far as the final absurdum. History has shown time and time again that this is not the case. Perhaps today's particular proponent's wouldn't go this far, but if they get their way, then tomorrow's will.

Apparently...
... things weren't as bad as reported in New Orleans.

What a shock--the media reporting uncritically and unquestioningly supposed "facts" that happen to go along with their expectation of how things are.

Well, duh!
This article purports that the presence of religion in a culture does not necessarily make a society healthier. It misses the point though--the health of a culture is not measured by counting drug-addicts and ghonnorhea cases, but by the general happiness and well-being of its citizens. In this sense, I don't believe that Europe is performing better than the US. However, the article's facts are good intellecutal ammunition against religious types.

And it won't stop until we challenge, not the scope of the eminent domain laws, but the existence of the eminent domain laws.

My 30th Birthday
I wasn't going to post anything for my birthday. It's not really a big deal to me really--except as an arbitrary point in time to set goal completion (e.g., be out of debt and in a house by 30--complete). However, I just found out about 10 minutes ago that Ice Scribe and I have the same birthday. That's fun for no reason that immediately comes to mind--just one of those ordinary coincidences that provides a bit of amusement.
I'm not really doing anything to celebrate--I was much more interesting in celebrating the purchase of a new house, and the successful demonstration of a software package I worked on. However, I will be hanging out with some guys from work playing XBox, and watching Battlestar Galactica, having some pizza and beer, and just generally having a regular, relaxing night of it.
So, Happy Birthday to Ice Scribe! and to me as well.
